Vice President Vincent Meriton holds bilateral meeting with Chairperson of African Union Commission

Vice President Vincent Meriton, in Addis Ababa ahead of the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of States and Government of the African Union, met with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat on February 8, 2019, to discuss issues relating to the Blue Economy, especially in line with the appointment of President Danny Faure as the Champion of the Blue Economy for Africa.

Whilst reiterating Seychelles appreciation for the confidence that the African Union has bestowed on the Country, Vice President Meriton said that “Seychelles is pleased to reiterate and reassure the Commission of its dedication in working together towards the successful implementation of the Blue Economy on the continent for the benefit of all Africans”.

The Vice President also informed the Chairperson on some major events that Seychelles plans to host this year, namely the First Investment Forum on the Pan-African Shipping line, and the International Symposium to open up the Joint Management Area between Seychelles and Mauritius in the Mascarene plateau.

In thanking Seychelles for accepting this responsibility, the Chairperson said “it was not by coincidence that Seychelles has been chosen as the Blue Economy Champion, for your country has proven its commitment to the Pan-African approach”. He equally pledged the Commission’s full support to Seychelles in ensuring the best and the greatest impact for attaining tangible results.

The delegation comprised also of Mr. Kenneth Racombo, Principle Secretary for Blue Economy, Ambassador David Pierre, Seychelles Permanent Representative to the African Union, Mrs. Johnette Stephen, Principal Counsellor in the Embassy of Seychelles in Addis Ababa, Ms. Wendy Isnard, First Secretary in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Ms. Fatime Kante, Economist in the Department of Blue Economy.
