VP Meriton welcomes Commanding Officer of INS AIRAVAT

Vice President Vincent Meriton yesterday welcomed the Commanding Officer of the INS AIRAVAT, Commander Sunil Sankar, at State House.

INS AIRAVAT, an Indian naval vessel which arrived at Port Victoria on Tuesday 4th Feb 2020, was previously in Madagascar providing humanitarian assistance and disaster operation, following flooding caused by cyclone ‘Diane’, last month.

“It is truly a pleasure to welcome you and your ship INS AIRAVAT, to Port Victoria and to Seychelles,” stated VP Merition.

The Vice President further conveyed, “We would like to thank you, Commander Sankar, and the Indian government for agreeing to transport the two wave riders, gifted to Seychelles by the Sri Lankan government. I understand that during this visit, your ship also presented marine equipment, as gifts to Seychelles Coast Guard.”

VP also noted that Commander Sankar’s visit is in line with the excellent cooperation that exist between India and Seychelles, and expressed appreciation for all the support provided.
