The groundbreaking for the wind-farm project, funded by the Government of Abu Dhabi and to be implemented under the supervision of MASDAR, is to take place later this month with the laying of the foundation stone for the project.

This follows talks held recently in Abu Dhabi by President  James Michel and a coordination meeting held this morning at State House. The meeting chaired by the President was attended by Minister for Home Affairs, Environment, Transport and Energy, Joel Morgan, senior representatives of the Seychelles Energy Commission, the Public Utilities Corporation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives of MASDAR.

Work on the wind-farm project will commence before the end of the year. It is expected to be commissioned by November 2012. Once operational, the wind-farm will generate some 6 megawatts of  electricity, contributing about 11 per cent of energy to the national grid.
