Regional Affairs

The Division promotes strategic interests and implements the Foreign Policy of Seychelles, through the practice of smart and proactive diplomatic engagements across the region. It coordinates with relevant stakeholders and takes the lead in ensuring that Seychelles’ national interests are incorporated within the programmes of regional frameworks. The Division facilitates the participation of key stakeholders in various programmes of regional organisations.

The Division also monitors and analyses developments in the politics, economics, social and cultural dynamics of the region, to ensure that Seychelles’ interests and policies are represented within regional frameworks. It also facilitates alliances, engagements and dialogues with other SIDS in Africa and the region, finding common ground and working for solutions that promote inclusivity and opportunities to integrate the interests of Small Island Developing States within the regional and international frameworks.

The Division comprises of two Sections.

The Regional Integration Section

The core mandate of the Regional Integration Section is managing the country’s regional integration aspirations in the context of the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) such as SADC, COMESA, COI, and IORA that are building blocks to the realization of full continental integration at the level of the African Union. The work of the section entails comprehensive coordination across a wide spectrum of thematic pillars such as economic, political, environmental, and security cooperation inter alia.

The Regional Security and Maritime Affairs Section

The core mandate of the Regional Security and Maritime Affairs Section is the safeguarding, promotion and protection of Seychelles’ maritime interests and to cooperate with international partners on security issues and ways to contribute to its economic development. The Section collaborates with regional member states to raise maritime domain visibility in international and particularly regional platforms. Seychelles will pursue programs that directly highlight the parallels between maritime safety and security and the continent’s and region’s development agendas, to increase engagement, interest and investment in the maritime realm.
