The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 independent and equal countries. It is home to 2.5 billion people, and includes both advanced economies and developing countries. 32 of its members are small states, including many island nations. Member governments have agreed to shared goals like development, democracy and peace. Their mission is to support member governments, and partner with the broader Commonwealth family and others, to improve the well-being of all Commonwealth citizens and to advance their shared interests globally. Appointments are on limited term contracts of usually three years.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Reporting to the Head of Rule of Law, the post-holder provides legal and policy advisory services to Commonwealth member countries.

The post-holder will be responsible for:

·   Providing leadership of the legislative support and law reform programme of RoL Section;

·   Taking direct responsibility for the results-based management of projects within their area of expertise and responsibility;

·   Delivering legal and policy advice and facilitating research and the development of legal policy either individually or as part of the RoL team.

A degree in law from a Commonwealth jurisdiction.

A minimum of ten years’ all round experience in the practice of law with clear evidence of experience at a senior level in:

·     Constitutional law

·     Administrative law

·     Legislative drafting and/or management of programmes in legislative support and law reform.
