SECTION:                             Legal Affairs Unit

RESPONSIBLE TO:              Legal Adviser

SALARY BAND:                    SB5 – Step 8 plus allowances

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide legal advice on matters under his/her dossiers.
  • To act upon tasks related to the legal aspects of Seychelles relations with international organizations as instructed by the supervisor.
  • To draft and/or review bilateral treaties between Seychelles and other States.
  • To prepare or assist in the preparation of papers to government or to assist other Ministries to prepare (briefs, memorandum to Cabinet and information notes) in the context of signature, ratification, accession, acceptance etc… in preparation for Seychelles to become a party to bilateral regional and international treaties as the case may be.
  • To assist in the drafting of legislation for legal implementation of regional and international treaties to which Seychelles is party, in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office.
  • To serve as liaison point between the Foreign Affairs Department and other ministries/departments on the implementation of international treaties.
  • To represent the Foreign Affairs Department within committees and others as instructed by the supervisor.
  • To attend overseas missions either for training or representing the Foreign Affairs Department.
  • To process requests for assistance in legal matters from foreign countries.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in International Law and / or Law Studies
